Hip fractures are now one of the main reasons why the elderly are referred to nursing homes. A hernia is typically caused by protrusion of an internal structure through a weak point in the muscle wall or surrounding structure. They can occur in many parts of the body with the most common being around the groin (inguinal) or abdominal region. Some hernia’s have no apparent cause whilst others can be attributed to heavy lifting, pregnancy, or obesity amongst other factors.
